| | TV on the Radio - "Hours" | ] | Things have been incredibly busy lately. After a month or two of little activity (snow and the holidays) I started doing over time at work, and finally got some freelance web design projects rolling again. On top of all of that I am also moving into a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath townhome in Kirkland. I sign the lease and start moving in tomorrow, but will probably do most of the moving on Sunday, and then taking care of the rest of it during the week (I don't have to be out until the 28th).
I can't wait to get moved into the new place and get the chance to finally rest and do some more personal artwork. I have been sketching a lot and playing around with the alchemy program, but haven't had the chance to do any real finished illustrations for myself. I have some concepts of projects that I would like to complete but haven't had the time to really start. I just have time to do some sketches on my lunch break. I also kind of want to delve deeper into actionscript to try out some game ideas that I got after completing Braid and listening to Jonathan Blow's ideas about game design. Again, I haven't had the time to do anything but sketch out and scribble ideas.
I should sleep. I am sure this post is filled with grammar and typographical errors, but I am too tired to care right now. |

| | son lux - "raise" | ] | Nothing special. Just a couple of quick alchemy sketches. One a sort of Galactus/Jack Kirby inspired guy, and a girl.

Also, I absolutely love Son Lux. Check out this video, and find the song "Raise". It's so damn good, I can't get enough of it. |

I just finished up the new character idea. She is meant to be a character from a story that I have going on in my head. I think the image speaks for itself. She is a "defector".
Unfortunately the trip to comic con didn't pan out, but some other (more important) things might work out. I will continue posting new images, since I plan on working out a lot of new drawings in the future.
I saw the Dark Knight last week, and it was good (as expected), but I felt the Two-Face story was too rushed. I didn't buy his transition to an evil character, it was too abrupt and extreme. I also thought that Batman Begins did a better job at balancing the action with the plot. The Dark Knight felt a lot more like a constant string of action scenes with a break here and there to add to the story. But those are minor criticisms towards a good movie. I drew a lot of batman related sketches last week in anticipation of the movie, you can find them on my Deviantart page if you are curious.

| | the notwist - "gloomy planets" | ] | I recently got a new scanner. So I have some new sketches ready. I also did a new drawing of Batman, which will also be uploaded into the illustration gallery. Here are the images, click to see them at a larger size.

Also, the new album by the Notwist (the devil, you +me) is awesome.

The Notwist are playing at Neumo's on October 23rd (i think that is the date). I will probably be going. |

I added a few more designs to Design gallery. I am still sorting through all of the stuff I have worked on over the past few years.
I also finished up a new drawing today. Some of the elements of the website design were developed from this drawing. I was inspired by three things for this one. First, my love of cephalopods. They are awesome. The second major inspiration was the look of old photographs (specifically those taken by Holga Cameras). The third inspiration was the mix of songs by Clouddead and the Kinks. Two great bands. Speaking of the Kinks, I think "This Time Tomorrow" has become my favorite song.

I recently found this website dedicated to good book cover design as well. I think it is a good source of inspiration. |

| my new website is up |
[Jun. 30th, 2008|06:14 pm] |
So, I got my new website up. I don't know who cares, but the URL is www.ectoplasmic.com. This journal will probably just become a cross post for my website. Does anyone know if you can take an existing journal and turn it into a syndicated thing, that just grabs the RSS data and posts it here? On a more personal note, a lot of changes are coming along in the next few months, but I feel pretty good about things. I have changed a lot in the past 3 years or so, and mostly all for the better. Things are going well with Amy. And when August 15th rolls around, my time at WizKids will come to an end. So, I have a lot of work to do, but I feel pretty good. My portfolio is mostly ready, but I am going to continue working on things as much as I can. I really feel motivated to improve the work I am doing. Anyway, I have rambled enough for today (there is a rant about the awesome-ness of Wall-E on my website to). |

Wall-E was amazing. I recommend that everyone goes and sees it. |
